Sachin Tendulkar wins Laureus Sporting Moment Award

The Indian star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar establishes his love for cricket once again wining the prestigious Laureus Sporting Moment Award in Berlin. This is yet another feather to his cap proving his stardom in cricket.

Tendulkar’s final World-cup winning match conducted in 2011 in Mumbai has bought this award to him. The moment by the end of the match when the team members carried Sachin around the ground for the victory lap was selected to be the Laureus Sporting Moment for the decades 2000-2020. Fans have voted in favour of this moment which the award committee described as the cricketer “carried on the shoulders of a nation.”

Tendulkar registered this moment at Berlin to be the proudest moment of his life, dedicating the award to all the people of his nation. He gave an emotional speech recollecting his visit with Nelson Mandela, recalling his words that sports has the power to usnify and unite everyone.

Lewis Hamilton, Formula One champiom and Lionel Messi, the football superstar shared the Laureus sportsman of the year award.

92nd Academy Awards

The 92nd Oscar Awards were given on 10th of February in Los Angeles, United States.

The Hollywood event took to celebrate the cinema all over the world appreciating artists for their contribution to the world.

The event took everyone with shock as the Korean comedy-drama Parasite won the top awards of the day as the first foreign language to win the best picture category. This film directed by Bong Joon-ho also won the best director and original screenplay categories. The film was nominated under six categories out of which it bagged four awards.

The leading actor and actress awards were grabbed by Joaquin Phoenix for Joker and Renee Zellweger for Judy. Elton John won the best original song for his ‘I’m Gonna Love Me Again,’ and ‘Rocketman.’ Brad Pitt and Laura Dern won the best supporting leads.

Oscar Nominations 2020

Oscar award nominations for the year 2020 is been released on Monday morning.

The 92nd Oscar award ceremony is to be conducted soon. The nominations for the above were announced early on Monday morning.

The comic drama Joker has gained about eleven nominations. Women directors were thrown out of best directors list inspite of their efforts.

Movies including Once upon a Time… in Hollywood, Ford v Ferrari, Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Post, 1917 were nominated for their best pictures.

The many categories in Oscar award include Best Picture, Actor in Leading Role, Actress in Leading Role, Actor and Actress in Supporting Role, Animated Featire Film, Cinematography, Costume Design, Directing, Documenting, Short Film, etc.

Greta Thunberg: Time Person of the Year

Greta Thunberg, an activist became the youngest ever to set a record as Time Person of the Year.”

Geta Thunberg was a Swedish climate activist who stirred the young minds of the whole world towards the drastic climatic changes. Through her powerful speech in the world conferences and global summits along with UN, she made the whole world turn its attention towards climatic changes happening due to global warming.

Her influential speech has inspired the students around the world to conduct anti-climatic change demonstrations which came to be known as “FridaysForFuture” movement.

Thunberg was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, 2019. She refused to receive Nordic council’s environmental award with cash price of 500,000krona. However, she refused the award asking the politicians and people with power to heed to the best science available.

She accepted the Time magazine’s Person of the Year award on behalf of all the climate activists. She will appear in the cover page of the US prestigious news publication on 23Dec/30Dec double issue as announced on NBC’s Today programme.

Zozibini Tunzi – Miss Universe 2019

Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa was crowned as the Miss Universe 2019, with two runners-up Sofia Aragon and Madison Anderson of Mexico and Puerto Rico respectively.

The Miss Universe contests of 2019 were conducted on Sunday in Atlanta. Nearly 90 contestants participated in the event from various countries. The competitions were held in three rounds including swimsuit, evening gown struts and questioning onstage.

Zozibini Tunzi, a 26-year-old South african starred the show by winning the crown. She is an active participant in the fight against gender based violence. She impressed the crowd with her final statement, “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me with my kind of skin and my kind of hair– was never considered beautiful. I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”

She was crowned by Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray. The runner-up crown was shared by two contestants, Sofia Aragón of Mexico and Madison Anderson representing Puerto Rico.

India was not to be found in any of the top lists of 2019.

Grammy 2020- Nomination

The complete nomination list of the Grammy Awards 2020 is being released on Wednesday.

The 62nd grand Grammy Award ceremony is to be celebrated on 26th of January at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. Preparations is being done in full fled.

The complete nomination list is released on Wednesday. Lizzo has taken the highest of eight nominations. Billie Eillish and Lil Nas X follow Lizzo with a total of six nominations.

The show was to be hosted by Alicia Keys for the second time in a row. Ariana Grande, Ellish’s brother, Finneas O’Connell has recieved a total of five nominations.

“7 rings,” “Señoritta,” “Old Town Road,” “Lover,” “the Lion King: The Gift,” has topped the lists in various categories.

National Film Awards 2019

The 66th National Film Awards were given on Friday. The awards were announced by Rahul Rawail, the jury.

The selection was made between the 419 films which competed this year. Uri: The Surgical Strike won a total of four awards.

The best actress award was taken by Keerthy Suresh for Mahanathi. KGF won the award for Best special effect along with Awe. Sanjay Leela Bhasali won the Best Music Direction for the movie Padmaavat. Baram was selected to be the Best Tamil movie.

A total of 31 awards were given in this ceremony. A new category for the film friendly state is added and the award is won by Uttarakandh.

Bharat Ratna Conferred upon Pranab Mukherjee

The former president of India, Pranab Mukherjee was conferred with Bharat Ratna on Thursday.

India’s the highest honorary award, Bharat Ratna was conferred in a grand ceremony conducted on Rashtrapathi Bhavan. The awards were given by the President Ram Nath Govind.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee recieved this award. Prime Minister Modi and other diginataries congratulated him. Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh were not able to attend the award giving ceremony.

Two other Bharat Ratna awards were given posthumously to Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika and RSS leader Nanaji Deshmkh.

Ramon Magsaysay Award 2019

Ravish Kumar, the journalist of NDTV wins the Ramon Magsaysay Award of 2019 on Friday.

Ramon Magsaysay Award is the Asia’s highest honour award. This award was initiated in 1957 in honour of the third Philippine president (after whom the award was named). This award was given to honor the individuals and organizations of Asia who render selfless service towards the people.

Ravish Kumar of India was one of the four winners of Ramon Magsaysay Award. He worked as senior executive editor in NDTV, one of the largest news sector of India. Ravish Kumar was one of the most influential journalist.

The other four winners of Ramon Magsaysay Award were Ko Swe Win of Myanmar, Angkhana Neelapaijit of Thailand, Kim Jong Ki of South Korea and Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab of Philippines.

Suman Rao as Miss India 2019

The beauty pageants of India for the year 2019 was selected at the Sardar Vallabai Patel Indoor Stadium on Saturday. The panel members who judged the event include Huma Qureshi, Chitrangada Singh, Remo D’Souza, Falguni Shane Peacocka and Sunil Chhetri.

Suman Rao of Rajastan won the Femina Miss India Beauty of the year 2019. She was a 20 years-old college student. She was to represent India at the Miss World 2019 in Thailand.

Shivani Jadhav from Chattisgarh won Miss Grand India 2019. Miss India United Continents 2019 was won by Shreya Shanker of Bihar.
