Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics 2020

The dates of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics were postponed to 2021 and the confirmed dates were announced.

The International Olympics Committee (IOC) decided that the Olympics will be conducted in the year 2021 in response to the pandemic COVID-19 that is been shaking the whole world. The committee announced that the games will begin on 23 July, 2021. The games will still be called Tokyo 2020.

The Olympics will start on the 23rd of July, 2021 and run upto 8th of August. The Paralympics will start on the 24th of August, 2021 and end by 5th September.

The IOC president, Thomas Bach said that Tokyo 2020 will be like a light at the end of the dark tunnel of pandemic through which the world is travelling. The International Paralympic Committee president, Andrew Parson said that the paralympics games that will happen in Tokyo will be a “global celebration of human resilience and a sensational showcase of sport.”

Road Safety World Series 2020

The cricket veterans from five different countries were about to play a series of cricket matches promoting awareness on road safety.

The speciality of this series is that the old heroes of cricket were about to make a comeback in these matches.

About eleven matches were organized to be conducted between India, Australia, West Indies, Sri Lanka and South Africa which has joined hands in this project on road safety. The teams will play against each pther in ten matches with the top two winners playing the final match.

This programme is organized by the Road Safety Cell of Maharashtra along with the Professional Management Group (PMG). The veteran players of India including Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Shewag, Yuvaraj Singh were about to make a comeback through this series.

Indian cricket team was to be lead under the leadership of Sachin Tendulkar. The matches are to be conducted from March 7 to March 22 in India.

Maria Sharapoa Announces Retirement

Maria Sharapoa, the world famous tennis player announces her retirement on Wednesday.

Hitting a real shock “Tennis- I’m saying goodbye” said Sharapoa in a report to the magazines. She announced her retirement for good on Wednesday.

Maria Sharapoa, the five-time Grand Slam winner is the youngest sportswoman who turned the world’s attention towards her at her teen age. She won the Wimbledon in 2004 at the age of 17. She was also the third-youngest player to win the All England Club court grounds.

Sharapoa won all the five Grand Slams before 2016, when she failed in a drug test and was banned for around 15 months. She won the French Open in 2012 and silver in Olympics the same year.

Sharapoa has been suffering from a long-standing shoulder problem which has led her in the loss of so many matches over the past few years. The 32 year-old player has announced her retirement on the basis of her physical condition.

In her retirement speech she said: ” In giving my life to tennis, tennis gave me a life.”

Sachin Tendulkar wins Laureus Sporting Moment Award

The Indian star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar establishes his love for cricket once again wining the prestigious Laureus Sporting Moment Award in Berlin. This is yet another feather to his cap proving his stardom in cricket.

Tendulkar’s final World-cup winning match conducted in 2011 in Mumbai has bought this award to him. The moment by the end of the match when the team members carried Sachin around the ground for the victory lap was selected to be the Laureus Sporting Moment for the decades 2000-2020. Fans have voted in favour of this moment which the award committee described as the cricketer “carried on the shoulders of a nation.”

Tendulkar registered this moment at Berlin to be the proudest moment of his life, dedicating the award to all the people of his nation. He gave an emotional speech recollecting his visit with Nelson Mandela, recalling his words that sports has the power to usnify and unite everyone.

Lewis Hamilton, Formula One champiom and Lionel Messi, the football superstar shared the Laureus sportsman of the year award.

From being Kambala Jockey to competing Ussain Bolt

Srinivasa Gowda, the Karnataka kambala jockey chose muddy fields over racing track after being called to initialize his career in sports.

Gowda is been trending among netizens recently for his incomparable speed in kambala game. Kambala is a buffalo-racing game popular in the coastal Karnataka. In this game, the jockey runs after the buffalo which speeds up in the muddy track.

Last month, the kambala jockey, Srinivasa Gowda gained the attention of the netizens. His running speed is incredible that it was compared to that of Ussain Bolt, the legendary athlete. In the kambala race, Gowda crosses 142.5 meters in 13.62 seconds in a paddy mud field. The average speed of Gowda is calaculated to be higher than that of Ussain Bolt.

Following his talent, CM of Karnataka, Yediurappa, invited Gowda and offered him a cash prize of ₹3 Lakh. The sports minister Kiren Rijiju offered him an oppurtunity to train in Indian sports academy to prepare him for the Olympics.

However, Gowda turned the offer preferring the muddy fields instead. He said that he has to cross the 142 meter field in kambala for about 35 times. He added that as kambala takes up a lot of energy running along with the buffoles, he needs to take rest for about a month and that he would take a decision on the offer after a month.

India wins a Super victory against New Zealand

New Zealand was defeated in its homeland by India in the T20 Interntional series taking a thrill lead with 3-0 victory.

Rohit Sharma took the lead in the T20 series against New Zealand making the thrill victory more interesting. The match ended in a draw with New Zealand scoring 179/6 by the end of 20 overs. As the match ended with a tie, a super over is given to the team to decide the winner.

New Zealand batted first scoring 17 runs in the Super Over. Rohit Sharma who left to the pavillion with half century during the match, took the lead in the Super Over. He smashed Tim Southee’s ball with two consecutive super sixes taking the team to victory.

RIP Mamba: Mourning the death of Kobe Bryant

The loss of legendary Los Angeles Laker, Kobe Bryant has sent the whole world of sports into a heavy loss.

Bryant was a legendary player who has recorded his name in the history of basketball as the five-time NBA Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist. In an unfortunate helicopter crash, Bryant, his thirteen-year-old daughter, and seven others of the crew lost their lives on Monday. This loss has taken the whole world in a grief for the lost lives.

American President Trump, Obama, sports personalities incuding Virat Kohli, Rafael Nadal, Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Maria Sharapova and others has expressed their deep condolances for the demise.

The crash took place as Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others of the crew were flying in thier Sikorsky S-76 helicopter in the west of Los Angeles. Reports say that the crash happened because of the bad weather as the helicopter slammed against the hillside in Calavasas.

Internet was slamming with notes of grief from the netizens as people share their love towards the demised and his family.

Dhoni Dropped off Central Contract

The legendary captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is being dropped off the central contact of BCCI for the cycle October 2019 – September 2020.

As the fans were having a serious debate on Dhoni’s future on cricket, BCCI’s contract list has put everyone on shock. The former Indian captain occupied Grade A (₹5 Crores) list in the last year. This year he is excluded from the list along with three other cricketers including Dinesh Karthik, Rayudu and Khaleel Ahmed.

This decision was taken by BCCI after Dhoni is being inactive in the International cricket matches. He hasn’t appeared in any international ODI after the World Cup semifinals conducted on July, 2019. Nothing much of Dhoni’s future in cricket is being revealed as the cricketer is maintaining silence. However, he is expcted to captain Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming T20 matches.

India Lost all its wickets against Australia

India faced the biggest failure against Australia in the ODI losing all its victory.India had a drastic failure losing all its wickets in the one day match conducted against Australia. Indian players scored only a total of 255 runs having lost all its wickets. This remained a piece of cake for Australia as Australian players ended the game gathering 258 runs in about 37.4 overs owning the cup.Australian captain Aaron Finch and and David Warner scored centuries taking victory to an easy reach. Warner scored 128 run and remained not out whereas, Finch played till the end scoring 110 runs. This duo made the victory easy for Australia.The match proved to be a great disappointment for India players. India lost all its wickets in the ODI only after 2005 where it played against South Africa in Kolkata.

Virat Kohli- No. 1 Test Batsman 2019

Virat Kohli crowns as the no. 1 Test batsman of the year 2019 as declared by ICC.International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the ranking list for the best test batsmen. Indian captain Virat Kohli topped the list with 928 points. Kohli has scored a total of 612 runs in 11 innings of 8 tests that was played in 2019. As for this Kohli is topping the test batsmen list for the second consecutive year.Australian star batsman Steve Smith has occupied the sencond place on the ranking with 911 points. Along with Virat Kohli three Indian players were included in the top 10 list. Cheteshwar Pujara is on the 5th place with 791 points and Ajinkya Rahanae with 759 points.
